Setup problems with pure-ftpd (Authentication failed)

Hello,

I am trying for a couple of days to set up pure-ftpd in Suse Linix 10.0. It seems that the pure-ftpd is running but I cannot login. I get the following message from the FTP client:

"220-Welcome to Pure-FTPd.
220-You are user number 1 of 10 allowed.
220-This is a private system - No anonymous login
220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server.
220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.
    USER ftpweb
331 User ftpweb OK. Password required
    PASS (hidden)
530 Authentication failed, sorry
    Active Help: http://www.smartftp.com/support/kb/index.php/51
    QUIT
221-Goodbye. You uploaded 0 and downloaded 0 kbytes.
221 Logout.
    Server closed connection
    Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)..."

I have set up a virtual user ftpweb and use the assigned password but no chance to login.

What could that be or what can I do?
