[pure-ftpd] How do you set mysql connection options?

I didn't see a way to view old list history, search, and github issues were
disabled. Which led me to this list as the only way to seek help for
pure-ftpd.

Is there a method, config file, or other for setting mysql client options?
For example, in my situation I've updated to the latest ubuntu and libmysql
was updated to 8.0. This defaults to TLS enabled and TLS versions greater
than v1. I need it to connect to a mysql 5.6 DB which only supports TLSv1.
I can alter my.cnf and connect just fine with the local mysql client, but
not with pure-ftpd.
