Just to second that: My - admittedly short and subjective - experience with 
rdesktop a few years ago led me to believe that patches sent in via 
sourceforge weren't handled at all. I never got a response, the tickets never 
changed status and neither of those patches made it into the repository. The 
result was that we had to provide our customers with a patched version of 
rdesktop...

When I OTOH contacted the FreeRDP people I immediately got into a 
conversation, which gave me the impresion that they are much more interested 
in user feedback and contributions (although I didn't contribute to FreeRDP).

However, as of today FreeRDP doesn't support smart cards AFAIK, but I think as 
soon as it starts doing so many people might turn to FreeRDP...
