Summary: Strange behaviour of fallback colordepth

Initial Comment:
When connecting to a remote server using 32bit ( -a32 ) and it is not 
supported the fallback colordepth chosen for the connection is 8bit,
this is somewhat unwanted.

Wanted behaviour is stepping down bitdepth to highest supported 
colordepth to be used for the the connection.
