Cendio AB is proud to be able to announce yet another RDP extension: sound capture support. This means that it's now possible to use input devices such as microphones with applications running on Windows terminal servers. With this extension, a broader range of applications can be used over RDP, including VoIP solutions. The actual RDP protocol extension is documented in the file "rdpsnd-rec.txt", in the rdesktop CVS repository. The latest CVS version has been adapted to support this extension, but a stable release of rdesktop which includes this extension remains. On the server side, the extension is implemented by the "tlsnd" driver, which replaces the standard "rdpsnd" sound redirector. tlsnd is not Open Source - it's a part of the ThinLinc product. However, it's free to use for one concurrent user, just as the rest of ThinLinc, even for commercial use. Additional users requires licenses. For more information, see http://www.cendio.com/how-to-buy. To install the tlsnd WTS sound driver, grab the ThinLinc Server CD from http://www.cendio.com/downloads/servercd and install the "WTS Tools" package.
