Rdesktop segmentation fault

I have been using rdesktop (1.5.0) (and grdesktop v 0.23) for about 6 months without any issues. I use them to connect to a Windows XP machine on a local network. I am running rdesktop on a new Debian Etch machine. I installed alsa earlier this week (I had no sound before this), and now rdesktop (grdesktop) has become flaky. grdesktop quits every few minutes with the error message /dev/dsp: Device or resource busy If I use rdesktop from the command line, it still quits and I get a Segmentation fault. The command I am using is: rdesktop -u mark -p ******** -f -a 16 -k en-us dumbo I looked through the archives and found some references to problems with arts and esd. Both seem to be running on my debian machine: mark@narwhale:~$ ps aux | grep arts mark 9057 0.3 0.7 21816 7956 ? Ss Apr17 0:00 /usr/bin/esd -nobeeps mark 25094 0.0 0.0 1948 620 pts/0 R+ 18:46 0:00 grep esd I have tried the following: artsdsp -m grdesktop esddsp grdesktop and the problem persists. I have tried killing artsd and esd, and again no change. artsd comes back by itself and esd stays dead. When I reconnect to the Windows machine, everything is where I left it. It is just annoying to have to reconnect every few minutes. If you can shed any light on this problem, I would be very greatfull!
