sound:local locks rdesktop

I am running rdesktop 1.5.0 on CentOS 4.4 (a clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.4). If I connect using "-r sound:local", I can log in. But then when the desktop appears, rdesktop appears to freeze up. Further, keyboard input to other programs appears to fail. I don't see any error messages in the console window from which I launch rdesktop If I use "-0 -r sound:remote" all is well.
