problem connecting to a windows 2003 secured terminal server

Good morning and merry Christmas to you all

I am having a hard time trying to connect to a windows 2003 secured
terminal server. every time I try I get
ERROR: recv: Connection reset by peer

I have tried other terminal servers, they work fine (none of the others
are secured ones). The secured one expects a certificate exchange -- and
hence even the stock tsclient in windows does not work, we had to
download the latest version and download/install certificate from the
server into that xp machine). Is that the problem? I tried all I could
think of, removing encryption to using domain user and all sorts of
things. But there is very little I have achieved -- since all my
attempts ended up in the same error message.

any help / pointers are much appreciated.
