The link that I provided you:

<http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc739961(WS.10).aspx>

Had two "See also" items at the end:

<http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc782813(WS.10).aspx>
<http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc737518(WS.10).aspx>

Both of which would be sensible reading for you.

But I wouldn't have thought that you should ever just be closing the window,
normally you would either log off, or it seems you can disconnect by clicking
on the Start menu and selecting Shutdown, and then selecting Disconnect from
the menu.

This is very dependent on the server configuration, for example I log out
disconnected users after 30 minutes.

I can't say I like the idea of clicking on Shutdown on a server in order to
get to the disconnect option, but blame Microsoft for that one. And for
having to click Start button to finish!
