Just a quick note for people trying to build 4.23.7 (or 4.24.1) on FreeBSD - it will crash and coredump. The fix is to change _FORTIFY_SOURCE=3 to 1 (or removing it) in buildtools/wafsamba/samba_autoconf.py before building. (FreeBSD has it's own implementation of FORTIFY_SOURCE but it doesn’t support level 3 and thus handlings it as level 2). - Peter > On 21 Apr 2026, at 13:46, Björn JACKE via samba <[email protected]> wrote: > > Release Announcements > --------------------- > > This is the latest stable release of the Samba 4.23 release series. > > > Changes since 4.23.6 > -------------------- > > o Thales Antunes de Oliveira Barretto <[email protected]> > * BUG 16043: Fix a directory file descriptor leak in vfs_glusterfs that > caused unbounded memory growth on the GlusterFS brick with > persistent SMB2 connections. > > o Björn Jacke <[email protected]> > * BUG 16057: autobuild fails if /proc/version contains trailing space > > o Volker Lendecke <[email protected]> > * BUG 16019: incorrect behavior on rpcclient enumport with rpcd_spoolss > > o Noel Power <[email protected]> > * BUG 16042: rpc workers with long living clients grow server memory keytab > * BUG 16058: vfs_snapper failing to access or enumerate files in subfolders > > o Andreas Schneider <[email protected]> > * BUG 15960: libsmbclient posix extensions with SMB3 don't work at all > * BUG 16040: Samba is not build with FORTIFY_SOURCE > > > ####################################### > Reporting bugs & Development Discussion > ####################################### > > Please discuss this release on the samba-technical mailing list or by > joining the #samba-technical:matrix.org matrix room, or > #samba-technical IRC channel on irc.libera.chat. > > If you do report problems then please try to send high quality > feedback.
