Ah,

   Thank you Rowland. I'll crank the log-level up to 10 and see I can 
detect anything out of order.

   I did simple tests across the network with smbclient making sure all 
machines accepted the connection with the proper password, etc.. All 
worked as it always had, e.g.

$ smbclient -U david -Lniflheim
Password for [WORKGROUP\david]:

         Sharename       Type      Comment
         ---------       ----      -------
         IPC$            IPC       IPC Service (niflheim Samba 
4.23.6-git.466.1a6b75cb208SUSE-oS16.9-x86_64)
         david           Disk      Home Directories
SMB1 disabled -- no workgroup available

   All connected and reported as it should. Hopefully the debug will 
show something helpful. I really think Apple had an "oops" in it latest 
IOS 18 build.
