Strange behaviour with Dropbox created files in Samba share

Hello. I have a Linux server with Samba 4.23 in AD mode. Samba uses 
dfs_samba4 and acl_xattr on the shares. One of the Samba shares is 
inside a Dropbox shared folder using dropboxd on the same Linux server. 
Permissions inheritance is enabled on the Samba share. But files and 
folders created by Dropbox refuse to inherit correct permissions. The 
really strange thing is that if I make a folder on the Linux side with 
mkdir - so completely outside the Samba file/folder creation path - it 
does inherit the full and correct extended NT ACL permissions on the 
Samba side - even if I create the folder as root:root.

Is it possible that Dropbox creates files/directories in a special way 
which prevents Samba from applying the permissions? mkdir is completely 
on the Linux side and outside Samba control - and yet permissions get 
applied correctly.

Any ideas much appreciated
