This feature request is in regard to the `watch\' feature and based on the assumption that watch is supposed to emulate the buddy list feature in protocols such as Jabber/AIM/MSN, etc.

Currently, `watch\' only notifies clients of changes. However, it doesn\'t tell clients about the current state of the nicks they are watching. For example: nile is watching his friend james. When nile connects to the network, he is _not_ notified of james\'s presence; nile is only notified of james\'s status changes. On Gaim, the problem is a bit more apparent: If nile adds james to his silc `buddy list\', james appears as _offline_ when nile first signs on. (This has caused my friends and I quite a bit of confusion).

Another problem that arises when comparing silc-on-gaim with the silc-client: watches on silc-client are not persistent. On Gaim, buddy lists are saved, but on silc-client, watches are lost whenever one /quits. While it would be trivial to add `watch -add nick1\', `watch -add nick2\' commands to be run at start up, if watch lists are meant to emulate buddy lists, then they should be saved.

And since I\'m talking about watch so much, I\'ll throw another request on top :). A `watch -list\' command that (1) lists all the clients you are watching and (2) hilights which ones are online would be useful in my opinion. Once again, this would make watch more similar to traditional buddy lists.

I apologize if this isn\'t what watch was meant for. However, this is the impression I get from the silc-client FAQ:
Q: How do I set my watch list to watch other users?
A: You can set nicknames to be watched into your watch list using the WATCH command. When the users you watch come online, leave the network, change modes or nickname will be notified to you, unless they have rejected watching. You can use the watch list to see for example when your friends come online or leave the network.
