These 5G future networks p= articularly require ultra-high bandwidth, negligible latency and seamless c= ommunication for a large number of devices and applications. Moreover, the = significantly reduced antenna size requirements enable novel applications a= t the nanoscale. The current research on THz communication is more towards = the devices, materials, and antenna design. However, to achieve the data ra= te and latency goals of 5G and beyond networks, more research is required t= o develop efficient and novel physical, MAC and network layer techniques in= cluding Massive MIMO, beamforming, and switching, medium access and sharing= , scheduling and synchronization, routing and resource allocation. The trad= itional techniques of communication cannot be directly applicable to THz ba= nds as they do not consider the unique characteristics of Terahertz band li= ke reflection, path loss, and absorption over short distance propagation. The UBTCN workshop aims to unite the key enabling players to achieve the go= als for future 5G and beyond networks. The main objectives are; to have an = overview of the current research in this area; to explore and discuss key c= hallenges; to highlight new research directions for future networks and to = share views on the high frequency bands; and to define the feasibility of t= hese bands as a good candidate to be supported by funding bodies for ultrah= igh speed networks action plans and standardization.
