Thanks to all who responded. It's interesting to note (and encouraging
for the future..) that on the different mailing lists where I started a
thread about unicode in text-mode applications, I received immediate and
very useful response. iow, I am not alone. :-)

Since I am limited to reading western European languages I'll probably
stick with my current en.US locale for the time being, but now that I
have a better idea of the situation regarding the applications I use on
a daily basis (screen, vim, mutt, slrn, elinks..) and that in most cases
we are "almost there".. I will keep an eye open for new versions.
