You need at least version 0.9.8.1pl2 (official CVS) or the latest
forked(?) Debian version. Both truly support unicode and UTF-8 (together
with all charsets implemented in your iconv-lib) and will run without
any visible problem (for me since about one year) in a UTF-8 terminal.

That should work, but latest stable is 2.0.7

Theses lines will not be displayed if you build the latest version from
CVS. Default charset is then taken from your actual locale settings.
