I believe this munging of saved articles applies only to the one
last displayed article (at least in 0.9.8.1). The workaround I use to
properly save verbatim articles is:
-1) use "#" key to number-tag the wanted article(s) or thread(s)
-2) go open *another* article (not to be saved)
-3) type "o" to save
-4) say yes to the "Save tagged articles? [Y]es, No, Cancel" prompt

I'd rather call that a grave data losing bug.
