Who can commit my patches into the CVS? Is only Thomas Schultz? 
Or is it one of the people listed as slrn developers in 
<http://sourceforge.net/project/memberlist.php?group_id=7768>

I could also commit these patches if someone could add my
sourceforge account to the list of people who can access the CVS not
just read only.

Here I agree with Sven. Functionality first. i18n is nice but not a
must have. Anyway I think slrn is more a newsreader for "advanced"
users and these users are normally so much interested in i18n.

Complete agreed, get rid of libslang1.
