Others seem to have no problems!?

Personally, I just migrated from solaris to linux and have to solve all of the problems once again:

- utf8-support: it should work out-of-the-box (or at least compile properly).

I did not yet manage to fix this - remember that not everyone got root access on a local machine.

I tried to work around this via luit - but this fails again from window to window, where different defaults apply (e.g. an xterm which has UTF8 off by default, while the shell got UTF8 on). I feel that somehow slrn should find out on its own whether the current terminal supports utf8. Otherwise it should be switchable from within slrn, by a menu option named within the help file.

I managed to see Umlauts properly now via encoding settings and luit - but now the thread graphics are broken.

- colors, fonts, styles

After the migration I guess I have to find out about the proper slang handling again. Typical text is now dark grey on light grey background (ahem, sorry, it's gray obviously...). Calling slrn with -C- now shows bold fonts on the TFT which shine in rgb colors instead (left/right font borders in red/green).

I'd vote against a '1.0' version as long as I'd have to become a linux expert just to find out how to configure it properly - as you see, I just use outlook in vmware instead of mutt and may switch to thunderbird for news just in order to avoid all this nuisance...

However, an update of slrn is overdue...

Thanks,
Martin
