The configure script was never meant to work on non-unix systems.  Try
building slsh, which is in the slang distribution.  If that builds,
look at its Makefile and see how the link is performed.  Look at the
README file in slang-x.y.z/slsh/mkfiles/ for information about building
it.

It is also a good idea to have slsh built and installed on your
system.  Future builds of slrn on win32 may depend upon it, since it
is the one interpreter that I can require to be installed.
