Charset 0.9.9-99 and OSX

Hi,
I'm using slrn-0.9.9-99 on OSX and i'm experiencing problems with the
localization.
In this article lfWzj.261437$%[email protected] , for example, 
all "è" became "?".

My configuration is as following, and even if my LANG variable is set to
UTF-8 slrn uses US_ASCII for display and outgoing, I'm I supposed to set
something to make it use utf-8 by default or shoud it recognize the
locale by itself and this is a bug?
