I'm going to go out on a limb and toss out a suggestion. I know it's not slrnpull's job to do this, but couldn't slrnpull detect that something was amiss, and replace 2 bazillion with the highest article actually downloaded in the active and minmax file? Having both worked on spacecraft related software, you'll recognize the term "graceful error recovery". Right now, it's no biggie for me; I just quickly whipped up a small script to detect and fix the spool after running slrnpull.
