further but eventually came to grief again. As I am using MinGW I
had to substitute:

mingw32-make -f makefile.g32

for:

But the compile process failed very quickly and complained that
slrnfeat.h could not be found, and in fact the file is not present.
Would this file normally be generated during ./configure, which on my
Windows system (oops I mean my wifes's Windows system!) I am not
running? 

Sorry to be so obtuse but I have not compiled under windows before,
once I understand the process a little better I will need no more
guidance :-).
