I get a garbled screen and an error message to the effect that the part
of the link that follows "http:/" - such as www.whatever.net, is "not a
valid command".

This may be due to my using a text-mode browser such as ELinks even
though I am running under "X" - the $DISPLAY variable is set.

Starting an Elinks is considerably faster than one of the mozilla clones
that take 10-15 secondes to initialize..!

In any case, I prefer to use urlview mostly because it provides a
consistent look/feel with what I use in mutt - priceless.
