Hi,
after the server closed the network connection due to inactivity, slrn
doesn't acknowledge this closing.
Here the server closes its half of the network connection:
% tcpdump -r /tmp/slrn.netdump
reading from file /tmp/slrn.netdump, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet)
13:07:45.412603 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 38470, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 52)
server.localnet.nntp > iBook.localnet.50950: Flags [F.], cksum 0x1553 (correct), seq 675297975, ack 3219782635, win 362, options [nop,nop,TS val 170031723 ecr 55603328], length 0
13:07:45.452115 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 37889, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 52)
iBook.localnet.50950 > server.localnet.nntp: Flags [.], cksum 0x817d (incorrect -> 0xed12), ack 1, win 357, options [nop,nop,TS val 56203452 ecr 170031723], length 0
The kernel shows this connection as half closed:
# netstat -tpn
Aktive Internetverbindungen (ohne Server)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name
tcp 1 0 192.168.0.5:55085 192.168.0.1:119 CLOSE_WAIT 3857/slrn
As you can see, there's one message in the receive queue. But slrn does
nothing.
I suspect slrn hangs anywhere and doesn't poll (select) the network
socket for data. Hence, it doesn't detect the connection was closed from
the remote site.
Does anyone observe this behaviour, too?
