Slrn pre1.0.0-26 is *very* slow at interacting with the
news.albasani.net NNTP server¹, and this happens every time slrn has
been left inactive for a while.

I have a broadband connection, no SSL enabled for this server. It can
take a minute or more to check for new groups and articles or to read an
uncached article, or to post an article.

If I press 'g' while in the newsgroup list, and slrn has been sleeping²
untouched for some time (>10 minutes, maybe less), or even suspended
(^z) and then foregrounded, it seems to freeze on "Checking for new
groups...". Then I press '^g' to interrupt and 'g' again, and the check
is now instantaneous.

Older slrns used to do this as well, every now and then. Maybe this
version is acting up more often.

I tried setting the 'force_authentication' variable to both 0 and 1, but
it didn't fix things.

The server does not seem to be slow when queried via telnet.

Is anyone experiencing the same?

Notes:
¹ INN 2.5.3 (20110312 prerelease)
² "sleeping" is used here with the same meaning as in Linux's `top`
  program.
