How to write .newsrc file?

Is there any way to tell slrn to write out an updated .newsrc file?
After an updgrade a few weeks ago, slrn is now segfaulting somewhat
regularly.  It would be nice to be able to checkpoint .newsrc
modifications so I don't lose the entire session's updates when slrn
segfaults.
