If you have access to the slrn sources, you can build the standalone
decoder:

   cd /path/to/slrn/src
   make uudecode
   mv ./uudecode $HOME/bin/slrndecode
   rehash
   cd /path/to/alt.binaries.pictures.fractals
   slrndecode files....
