This and the remainder of your message allow me to narrow the problem
to the mime.sl file [/usr/share/slrn/slang/mime.sl]

Uncommenting the interpret statement does not change anything, the 'K'
for scoring does not work, but uncommenting the setkey statements, which
AFAIS should not interfere at all, *DOES* bring back the 'K' key.

These are the three last lines in my .slrnrc file and the most recently
added (copied and pasted). Unfortunately I subscribe to a few groups
where I need to decode French accents in Quoted Printable multipart
messages and metamail is no longer available from the Debian
resources...

The mime.sl file is certainly in wide use elsewhere and I am unable to
detect anything in the code. So, if the frugal three lines above already
point at a mal configuration, I will be glad to rectify that.
