Well, I followed the INSTALL* files. I can't log into the machine right now, but off the top of my head I did:

make
make install
snnewgroup test.patrick    (  <--- a colleague  )

..which perfectly listed test.patrick as the one and only newsgroup on the nntp server at ip:119.

I then did the startnews-script trick because it kept saying 'Hi, you can't post' when telnetting to ip:119.

I guess I should check how POST is called, should I temporarily replace POST with script printing the supplied parameters to a file? I could then check the parameters as listed with the parameters POST expects.
