I'm using sn version 0.3.3, I built it from source on the system
where I have the shell account.  I'm not absolutely sure what Linux
distribution it is but it's using kernel 2.2.19.

I'm not using snauth.  I'm using couriertcpd to run snntpd as
follows:-
    couriertcpd 50119 /home/d/cgreen/bin/snntpd

This gets it to listen on port 50119 and, as I said, it all works fine
apart from my newsreader thinking it needs authentication.  One can
telnet into port 50119 and it just echoes:-
    "200 Hi, you can post"
