Am I using 'sn' in the wrong way?

I want to be able to pull across about five newsgroups from a public news 
server at Novell and be able to read the news 'locally'.

More specifically, I want my Linux box to connect to suppor-forums.novell.com 
at midnight, download headers and message bodies and then I want to point my 
news reader (netscape) to my _local_ machine so that I don't waste bandwidth 
during the day .... slow connection.

Is 'sn' the right tool?  Nevermind the 'midnight download stuff'.

I've downloaded, compiled, installed and _almost_ got sn working.  I'm up to 
the ./snntpd command (I've already gotten sn to connect to novell's site and 
download a list of newsgroups).  

'snntpd' looks like it's waiting for input if I run it straight from the 
command line but a port scan of my system shows nothing listening on port 
119.

Am I expecting too much from 'sn' or am I missing something?
