Seems that Kimbro Staken disagrees with the "elegance" of the MetaWeblog API:

I definitely trust Kimbro's take as a developer, and am highly skeptical
of most things coming out of Dave's keyboard (especially code).  Make
your own appraisals, but I, for one, am glad I never had to implement
the MetaWeblog API.
