Hiya,

The practice of pinging is rapidly becoming something that will give
established aggregation siets a type of lock-in, as it will be
increasingly difficult to get bloggers to ping new (and increasingly
numerous) aggregators. For a variety of reasons, it is preferable to
have numerous aggregators - to help ease the RSS load on individual
sites, for example, and to allow the proliferation of niche aggregators.
For this reason may I recommend that someone set up a 'ping-central'
that will allow blogs to ping once, with the ping echoing to any
aggregators that register for the service. Should anyone author the
code, I would be happy to host it if needed; I have ample bandwidth and
server space (no Java, please).
