Re: Would an Atom-RDF mapping be useful?

I am an "implentor": the author of a Windows Mobile aggregregator.


I'm not sure what your question is, largely because I don't know 
what the benefits of a mapping would be. Let me take a couple of 
guesses, I may not be understanding at all. Just let me know if 
that's the case. (Maybe point me to some "intro" documentation).

From the name "mapping" it sounds like it would enable a conversion 
from Atom to RDF.

From an implementors standpoint, to be beneficial, I would need a 
convertor first. I'm not sure where I'd get that, but presumably it 
would be straightforward to write (unless hierarchical changes are 
necessary to get from Atom to RDF), and would be done at a "lower 
level": that is, a level with little or no element interpretation.

Once converted to RDF, I could potentially use consistent program 
logic for all feeds to translate that to my "internal" format. But 
this would only work if all features of all formats were unified, or 
at least common features were translated to common 
elements/attributes. And for this mapping to be very useful, I would 
have to have a mapping from every format into RDF to eliminate all 
non-RDF interpretation logic.

And all this assumes that I have RDF-capable parsing available in 
Windows Mobile. I am not sure, but my feeds seem to have some 
problems when dealing with rdf elements in feeds.

Bottom line, if I'm understanding correcty, is that from my 
standpoint of an aggregator author, I don't think a mapping from 
Atom to RDF would benefit me greatly. The real benefit would be in 
standardizing all the tags of all feed formats and making a 
consistent superset of them for which implementors can create 
consistent program logic.

Please understand that I may not have the slightest correct idea of 
what you are talking about. Although it would be helpful to me if 
you pointed that out!
