Stop dead in its tracks, and also report an error when the processing is
done in a context where reporting errors makes sense (e.g. an interactive
process such as a browser). So it can still produce an estimation of what
would have been produced if it was part of the error message.

Sure this is pretty much attempting to find a loophole, but as long as the
error message looks like an error message and smells like an error message I
think it keeps to the spirit as well as the word of the spec.
