Re: List moderated?

Many lists are moderated until first posts.  This is done specifically to
prevent the hit-and-run spammers from joining lists, lurking for ages and
then blasting a bunch of junk to the list.  There are members who joined
ages ago, have never posted anything and remain moderated to this day.  The
point isn't to throttle the conversations (rss had seen WAY too much of that
ages ago).  The point is to keep the noise out of the list.  The policy is
moderation for members is removed on posting relevant material.  It's worked
very well.

Most lists, this one included, have more than one moderator for handling
message approvals.  This way no one person can arbitrarily dictate what is
or isn't valid material.  Again, this policy in place specifically BECAUSE
rss has seen that sort of bad behavior before in other forums.

All that said, the YahooGroups system itself has its ups and downs.  I've
seen messages mailed to the list not come up for moderation for days.  So
while messages may languish for a while once it comes up for moderation, it
has to GET there first.  And even when a message is moderated through I've
seen it take HOURS for yahoo to push them out to the members or come up on
the mailing list.  I've also seen the process take mere minutes for all the
steps.  YMMV and I know mine has; here on this list and on others.

You can probably dispell the conspiracy theories when you recognize
moderator laziness.

New member, most likely.  I don't recall who has moderator access, but
I'm sure that's the holdup.
