Sean already outlined the reasons that he and I are looking to avoid 
changing the namespace at this point in another rss-dev message[1]. Due 
to the way that implementation has proceeded, there is a relatively 
large motivation against changing the namespace two more times in this 
process.

If the working group does wish to set up the PURL URI as a namespace, 
we will graciously accept it as an additional redirect to the 
specification, but the namespace URI defined in the specification will 
most likely not be changing. 

I appreciate the enthusiasm, and I'm sorry that there isn't more we can 
do to accomodate such a change. I believe I've seen enough thoughts on 
backwards compatibility that neither I nor Sean want to make things any more 
difficult than many people believe they already are.
