The Feed Validator's check for atom:link is already starting to bear fruit. I'm hearing from blogging tool developers about what the element is and why it's so useful. I've already helped two developers add support for it (and would be eager to help more). Even before the profile's adoption, atom:link was the second-most popular namespace element in an RSS feed's channel, appearing in 15 percent of the feeds we surveyed [1]. It makes a feed completely self-describing so that it's easier to cache, transfer over file-sharing networks like BitTorrent and send in email. Every RSS 2.0 feed produced by FeedBurner includes one. As for email addresses in RSS, we had discussions here about how to deal with the fact that the specification offers no guidance on the proper form for an address. Because every example email address in the spec takes the form "username@tld (First Last)", we stated that it's the RECOMMENDED format in RSS 2.0. In my opinion this is the proper approach, because you should be able to know that if you follow the example to the letter, it will work in aggregators. 1: http://www.rssboard.org/news/168 Yahoo!
