Re: Which Namespace IF

First a clarification: the namespace I was proposing (and the one that I 
tested) was http://backend.userland.com/rss2 (note the 2 on the end that was 
missing from Randy's message).

I understand the desire to control the domain at which the namespace is 
hosted, but I don't think that's a valid justification for a different URI. 
When the board recommended various namespaces in the Best Practices Profile, 
none of those namespace URIs were under our control, and that didn't seem to 
bother anyone.

Admittedly the Userland namespace doesn't seem to be widely used or 
supported, but some people have definitely been using it, and some clients 
and parsing libraries have definitely been supporting it. To invent our own 
namespace that serves the exact same purpose, just so we can control the 
domain, seems somewhat petty to me.

Then there's the issue of breakage. Regardless of what we say, this 
namespace will find it's way into standalone feeds.

Case 1: Someone sees a namespace associated with RSS elements and thinks 
that they should (or may) use that namespace in their standalone feeds. Case 
2: We have an XML container format of some kind with an RSS payload, and the 
application processing that container merely extracts the payload without 
knowing anything about RSS or the need to strip the namespace before passing 
it on to an external viewer or parser.

The chance of these cases working with existing clients and libraries goes 
up considerably if we use the userland namespace rather than an rssboard 
one.
