Windows 10 application shown as "black box"

Hi, When using the TightVNC windows server, I have an application that when viewed via VNC is shown as black. The rest of the desktop is visible, just the entire contents of the application is shown as a black rectangle. The application is shown correctly on the native display of the remote machine. Are there different capture methods that can be configured somehow? I notice if I print screen for example, the application is visible correctly. Via Microsoft RDP it is also displayed correctly. It just seems to be that the way in which TightVNC captures the desktop omits the window contents for this application.
