Depends on how your VNC Server launches sessions.
In the "old way" display sizes were specified in a master
configuration file and associated with connecting on a specified port.
Today, most Linux distributions are implementing connectiions based on
individual Unit files, and the display is specified in the Unit file.

I personally haven't looked at recent/current setups on Windows as the target...

So, you might rephrase your question specifying more about your VNC
server setup... For the most part what is configured on the Server, ie
what OS, how recent was  the server side installed, whether you know
the specific way the Server was set up (IIRC TigerVNC currently
supports at least 3 different ways)
