Although XFCE is considered a light Desktop, 8GB is considered rather minimal nowadays. The idea is to minimize any chance of memory swapping at any level.m Can you share what you're doing in your virtual machine? Also, what OS is your remote client running on, that may be important knowing what protocols are being used.
