the '.' just sorts the list of displayed groups alphabetically for this
session. if you like to make such sorting session persistent sort you
newsrc manually[1] (while tin is NOT running) or use 'm'ove group.

[1] sort -n ~/.newsrc > ~/.newsrc.sort && mv ~/.newsrc.sort ~/.newsrc
