sorry I was not aware I'm writing to an int'l list.
Yes, you're right, the
mv ~/.tin/tinrc ~/.tin/tinrc.bak && \
iconv -f iso-8859-1 -t utf-8 -c -o ~/.tin/tinrc ~/.tin/tinrc.bak
line did do the trick.
The "error in regular expression" is now gone.
