Actually tin reads news locally (directly from a news spool).
You will need to ask tin to read news *remotely* by using the "-r" switch.

As for which nntp server it connects to, the "-r" switch tells tin to connect 
to $NNTPSERVER or /etc/nntpserver

You can ask tin where to connect to by two different ways:

	1) set $NNTPSERVER or /etc/nntpserver to whatever suit you and use the "-r" 
	switch
	2) create a $HOME/.tin/newsrctable and use the "-g <shortname>" switch

The format of the newsrctable is:

	# NNTP server				# custom newsrc	# shortname
	news.eternal-september.org	.newsrc-es.org	es

Please note that $HOME/.newsauth is still mandatory if you're trying to log 
on an nntp server where an authentication is required.

More informations can be found on `man 5 tin` for all of the configuration 
files used by tin.
