                         ^^^^^ This patch it's for 2.4.18, not for 2.4.9, and 
it's for the standard kernel of www.kernel.org

Download the 2.4.18 kernel and apply the patch (untar, cd linux, patch -p0 < 
tux2-gull-2.4.18-final-A3)
