The only thing that seemed to trigger the problem was the logging of TUX enabled and heavy disk access with a different userspace process. I had those problems on my production servers and it ended when I turned off the logging. The one box has now a uptime of: 8:18pm up 206 days, 14:48, 2 users, load average: 2.14, 1.02, 0.64 With logging enabled the longest uptime was about ten days. We even replaced the hardware (exept the discs, old box IBM x330 with 2x1.33GHz P3S, new one IBM x330 with 2x1.266GHz P3S). The only difference was the uptime rising from about 4 days to about 8 days. Well, would be nice to have the logging enabled again. I considered other alternatives, but the great advantage of TUX is (in my opinion) that the connection is complitly handed over to apache. With proxy solutions I had some bad experience with redirects and if you want to know the client IP you have to look at the x-forwarded-for header and so on. I like the more transparent way like TUX does it. Does anybody know a different solution that could help me? What are your expiriences? The thing is that I like to reinstall my servers and to have logfiles again. If anybody had a patch for that logging issue, I would say "OK. give TUX another try!". If not, I would have to find a different solution. I use apache (and soon apache2) as backend server with mod_perl and ssl. So the apache processes are really big. Thanks for reading!
