actually, i was able to reproduce the crash quire easily when tux was
heavily loaded (over 100 hits/sec) under stock 2.4.20 and 2.4.21, just by
copying a 500MB file between different directories while tux logging was
enabled. i currently have same setup, with over 500 hits/sec at peaks, with
absolutelly no logging, and no problems.

what kernel are you running?
 
2.4.21pre5aa1 is what we are running on both machines, however, some
newer machines are running 2.4.21-aa1
 
It is interesting that there would be a heavy userland process that
could interfere, but, depending on the kernel you were running, there
are a number of possibilities. Perhaps we can narrow it down a bit
more.
