Yes I know, I _should_ use a newer one solely because of security issues. But,
you know, the box does quite well since the logging is disabled... The
problem is that I am not physically at the box and a don't have a chance to
select a different kernel to boot when the new one isn't booting. OK, it's a
managed service and a can get somebody at the machine to help me, but as long
as everything is running well, I don't wan't to do it. But if I would know
that a new TUX version and/or a newer kernel version would cure my problems I
would install a newly build kernel right now...

I don't have a test server which I can use to get more information. I once
tried it with a machine a had here and some clients which made requests with
the "ab" program from the apache distribution and copied some big files from
parition to partition and so on but was not able to trigger the hang. We all
noticed that the machine is still responding on pings when the hang occurs.
So it seems to be a kind of kernel deadlock with the filesystem but the
kernel still response to hardware irqs (e.g. from the NIC). I don't know that
much about the kernel so I can't exactly figure out what's happening. If I
would only have more time to learn and to test...
